Orlandina Basket comunica di aver sottoscritto un contratto fino al termine della stagione con il playmaker americano Eric Maynor (191 cm, classe 1987).
Maynor, prima scelta del Draft NBA 2009 (chiamata #20 da parte degli Utah Jazz), ha giocato al college con Virginia Commonwealth Union dal 2005 al 2009 ottenendo prestigiosi riconoscimenti: giocatore dell’anno della sua conferenze (CAA) nel 2008 e nel 2009, la sua canotta #3 è stata ritirata dal college.
Per lui 5 stagioni nella NBA tra Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, Portland Trail Blazers (con il nostro Player Development coach, Kim Hughes), Washington Wizards e Philadelphia 76ers, per un totale di 267 gare di regular season con 4.3 punti, 2.8 assist, 1.3 rimbalzi in 14.6 minuti di media. Maynor ha anche giocato 23 gare di playoff con gli Oklahoma City Thunder, raggiungendo le finali della Western Conference nel 2011.
Nella seconda metà della stagione 2014-15, l’approdo in Europa: 15 partite con Varese per chiudere quel campionato (13.5 punti, 7.4 assist, 4.1 rimbalzi), ed è tornato alla Openjobmetis nella passata stagione dopo una brevissima esperienza in Russia con il Nizhny Novgorod (a causa di un infortunio).
Maynor ha disputato 29 gare nel campionato 2016-17 con i lombardi, segnando 12.9 punti con 5.5 assist (3° in Serie A) e 3.1 rimbalzi di media in 29.9 minuti. Ha inoltre disputato la Basketball Champions League, giocando 23.8 minuti a partita in regular season con 8.9 punti, 3.8 assist e 2.7 rimbalzi di media.

La disponibilità di Maynor, un big del campionato e uno dei playmaker più efficaci degli ultimi anni in Serie A, terzo assistman della scorsa stagione, ci ha subito spinti a pensare a questo restyling del reparto esterni anche a fronte del rientro di Voja Stojanovic, che avverrà nelle prossime settimane. Maynor è un giocatore capace di creare dal pick and roll, per sé e per gli altri, con la capacità di dare molte opportunità ai nostri tiratori. La presenza di Eric sarà inoltre di grande giovamento anche per le caratteristiche di Engin Atsur, che potrà giostrare in tutti e due i ruoli di guardia e giocando anche al fianco di Maynor ci darà ancora più qualità nelle letture. Ci siamo confrontati con coach Di Carlo e abbiamo scelto subito questa strada, perché riteniamo che Maynor possa innalzare notevolmente il potenziale della squadra”.

Orlandina Basket signed the US Point Guard Eric Maynor (6’3, class of 1987) until the end f the season. Maynor, a first rounder in the 2009 NBA Draft (#20 by the Utah Jazz), spent four years with Virginia Commonwealth Union at college basketball level, becoming a 2-time CAA Player of The Year (2008, 2009). His #3 jersey has been retired.
He played 5 season in the NBA with Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, Portland Trail Blazers (with our Player Development coach, Kim Hughes), Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers, collecting 267 regular season games averaging 4.3 points, 2.8 assists, 1.3 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game. Maynor has also played 23 NBA Playoffs Games with the Thunder, reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2011.
He arrived to Europe during the 2014-15 season, playing 15 games in Italy with Varese (13.5 points, 7.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds), where he returned in the last season after a short experience in Russia with Nizhny Novgorod (due to an injury).
