Esperienza, tiro da fuori, consapevolezza. Possiamo probabilmente riassumere così Valery Likhodey, nuova ala della Betaland Capo d’Orlando, ingaggiato fino a fine stagione con l’idea di aggiungere un elemento che possa dare qualità e consistenza al roster paladino.
Giocatore riconosciuto per la grandissima mira nel tiro da fuori, che non disdegna lo spettacolo (se volete imparare a schiacciare… qui ve lo insegna lui cliccando qui!), Likhodey vanta nel suo palmarès due coppe europee e il primato in Euroleague Basketball nella percentuale da tre punti nel 2014, quando portava i colori dei russi della Lokomotiv Kuban, formazione con la quale ha vinto l’Eurocup nella stagione precedente battendo Bilbao (allora allenata dall’attuale coach di Tenerife, Fotis Katzikaris, e con nomi pregiati come Nikos Zisis e Raul Lopez nel roster) nella finalissima di Charleroi. “I due miei ricordi miglior nel basket”, racconta Valery, alla prima chiacchierata da orlandino. “Sono felice di raggiungere l’Orlandina, so che c’è tanto lavoro da fare a Capo d’Orlando. Il mio agente mi ha parlato di un’offerta dall’Italia durante questa pausa, e questo è il mio Paese preferito fuori dalla Russia: non vedo l’ora di godermi il sole, il buon cibo e tutto quello che ha da offrire! Ho parlato con il DS Peppe Sindoni e coach Gennaro Di Carlo, sono stati intelligenti e professionali. Ho subito avuto un feeling“.
Il club conta sulla sua esperienza internazionale per affrontare con carattere le 11 delicatissime sfide in arrivo, e per dare fiducia a un gruppo che ne ha bisogno per ritrovare le sensazioni positive della prima parte di stagione. “Sicuramente mi aspetto di raggiungere gli obiettivi del club. Arrivare in corso d’opera con una missione da compiere è qualcosa di nuovo per me. Miglioreremo il livello del gioco e la chimica di squadra per chiudere bene la stagione, farò del mio meglio per questo. Inoltre sono curioso di conoscere il basket italiano dall’interno. Cosa devono aspettarsi i tifosi da me? Naturalmente se potessi scegliere una sola cosa, sceglierei le vittorie. Quello che credo di poter dare è tiro da fuori, gioco in post, rimbalzi, e spero anche che si divertano!“.

Valery Likhodey: “I want to reach my team’s goals!”
We can say that Valery Likhodey, new Betaland Capo d’Orlando forward to the end of the season, brings three great skills into our team: experience, long range shooting, awareness.
Everybody know about his 3-pointer specialist skills, we also know that he like spectacular plays (wanna learn how to dunk? Here’s his tutorial! Click here!), Likhodey has won two European cups and was the best in 3-pts percentage in the whole Euroleague Basketball in 2014, when he played with Lokomotiv Kuban.
He won the 2013 Eurocup he previous season, winning the championship game in Charleroi against the Spanish side Bilbao (then coached by current Tenerife’s own Fotis Katzikaris, with some big names such as Nikos Zisis and Raul Lopez) nella finalissima di Charleroi. “I think those are my best basketball memories so far”, Valery says, in his very first “Italian” interview. “I’m glad to join this team and I know there’s a lot of work to do. Now we had a three weeks break because of FIBA Windows and my agent called me and said that we got offer from my favorite foreign country, so we checked everything and decided that it was a good opportunity both for us and the team. I travel a lot in Italy, so want to see the sun, sea and good food! Speaking with the Sports Director Peppe Sindoni and coach Gennaro Di Carlo, they were very professional and intelligent. I felt talking with good people”.
The club relies on his International basketball experience to play the following (and very important!) 11 league games, not only to improve on a basketball side, but also to help our group of players with some confidence, to back to the positive vibes we all felt in the first part of the season. “Of course I expect to help my team to reach their goals. It’s new experience for me, my first year like legionnaire. I think we will increase the level of the game and our chemistry to finish season in positive way, so I’ll try to show my qualities the best I can. Also, I wanna see the Italian basketball ‘kitchen’ from the inside. What should the fans expect from me? If I have to choose, I wanna bring victories! However, I can shoot, play some low post game and go for rebounds. I hope to bring them a lot of pleasure of watching basketball, too!”.
